Women’s Collective Ireland Attend CES Research Report Launch On Community Education
Yesterday WCI’s Programme Coordinator, Vivienne Glanville, and WCI Ronanstown Coordinator, Sinead Mahon, attended the launch of an exciting report which WCI Ronanstown participated in on lone parents. The Centre for Effective Services (CES) conducted the research for the report, which was informed by eight case studies of lone parents enrolled in community education programmes offered by various Irish organizations—One Family, Doras Buí (Dublin), Women’s Collective Ireland– Ronanstown, An Cosán (Dublin), The Acorn Project (Offaly), St. Catherine’s Community Services Centre (Carlow), Mayfield Integrated CDP (Cork), and Longford Women’s Link.
We were welcomed by Community Foundation Ireland and the Beachaire Fund, alongside Minister Norma Foley, who held the launch of their research report titled: “‘The Power of Community Education’ Supporting lone parents to fulfil their potential in education, employment, and society”.
The report outlined some truly fascinating, showing the importance of community education and how it can significantly improve the lives of single parents and their kids. Participants in community education programs who are lone parents reported greater mental health and overall well-being. They also have a higher chance of advancing to higher education and training, as well as better-paying jobs, and they contribute significantly to their communities.
