The National Collective of Community Based Women’s Networks (NCCWN) welcomes the Tusla review of accommodation services for victims of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence. Yesterday, the Minister for Justice Helen McEntee delivered a draft of the publication of the Third Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Strategy to the NGO sector.
The key areas of government commitment are:
- New agency under consideration to deliver excellent services to victims
- Priority areas for refuge accommodation identified
- Government commits to meeting accommodation recommendations laid out in the Istanbul Convention.
The new Strategy will be structured around the four pillars of the Istanbul Convention which are:
- Prevention
- Protection
- Prosecution
- Co-ordinated Policies.
NCCWN continue to provide information and awareness raising activities on domestic, sexual and gender-based violence in grassroots communities. NCCWN 17 Women’s Projects support and refer women to the appropriate agencies at times of crisis in their lives.
A public consultation on the third national strategy has been launched today. Following these consultations, the strategy and action plan will be finalised, brought to the Government and published. We encourage everyone to take part in the consultation.
