WCI Ronanstown attend South Dublin County Council Women’s Caucus

WCI Ronanstown were delighted to have recently received an invitation to join the South Dublin County Councils (SDCC) Women's Caucus. WCI Ronanstown and the Falls Road Women’s Group, who are in partnership with each other for cross border work, joined the SDCC Women’s Caucus to discuss the importance of community action, and to learn more about the role of local government in the community.

This gathering took place following the announcement that the South Dublin County Council were the very first council in the history of the state the co-opt and elect a majority led female council. Of the 40 councillors elected to SDCC, 21 are female, representing 52.5% of the council.

The SDCC Women’s Caucus is comprised of local female councillors within South Dublin County Council who, as with many other gatherings such as this one, come together as the SDCC Women’s Caucus to work on promoting the inclusion of women within public life. By focusing on community engagement to support local community leaders, the SDCC Women’s Caucus are able to work together to strategically celebrate the achievements of community leaders and work to ensure the voices of women are heard throughout South Dublin at both community and council level.

Gatherings such as this are vital to marginalised communities, as it allows all members of a community the opportunity to voice their concerns and discuss the ways in which communities can come together collectively to address social inequalities, and the role the council can play in overcoming these obstacles.

As a national not-for-profit organisation with a total of 17 community development projects located throughout Ireland, it is always so heartening to see the impact WCI Projects have within their local communities as community leaders.
