Women’s Collective Ireland – Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown (formerly NCCWN SWAN) is a women’s network based in Loughlinstown, South Dublin.
We support women in our communities by:
- Providing information, advice and supports on a wide variety of topics
- Delivering accessible, affordable recreational and education courses
- Developing and delivering QQI accredited courses in conjunction with Dublin Dun Laoghaire ETB
- Offering holistic and wellbeing sessions and programmes
- Providing space for women to come together to develop their own groups
- Supporting local women in business
- Linking with other WCI women’s Projects throughout Ireland to ensure equality for women.

Chair Yoga
Our weekly Chair Yoga class runs weekly here in WCI – DLR. Our programme aims to:
- increase strength and flexibility
- improve respiration, energy and vitality
- improve concentration
- increase stamina
- build self-confidence
- develop inner peace
We offer this program in a non-judgemental welcoming environment for all our participants.
Flower Arranging
This course is new to WCI – DLR. Our flower arranging course not only contribute to community interaction for participants but also aims to assist with the holistic factors of health and well-being.

Spanish Lessons for Beginners
Spanish for beginners is new to WCI – DLR also, it has been a huge success and a very busy class indeed. The diversity amongst out participants on this course is fantastic. Not only is there the advantage of learning a new language but to participant with a wonderful group of people in such a social relaxed atmosphere with a native Spanish tutor hosting the course. Bringing about self confidence in a healthy environment allowing the learners to explore other further education options.
MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction)
Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week evidence-based program that offers secular, intensive mindfulness training to assist people with stress, anxiety, depression and pain. While MBSR has its roots in spiritual teachings, the program itself is secular.
Personal Effectiveness
Some of the key skills developed while under taking our personal effectiveness program:
- Determination. It allows you to focus only on achieving a specific goal without being distracted by less important things or spontaneous desires
- Self-confidence
- Persistence
- Managing stress
- Problem-solving skills
- Creativity.
Creative Writing
Our creative writing course, introduces students to a variety of writing types and provide them with the opportunity to create their own work. Creative writing tips, techniques and ideas are explored within the class. Creative Writing is a form of expression allowing the participant to explore and engage themselves in the topic and develop with their story. The tools of creative writing will be taught by our tutor enabling the participants to create their own pieces of writing.
Jewellery Making
We offer on going classes in jewellery making. We have a fantastic jewellery designer facilitating our classes here in WCI – DLR. Our participants are encouraged to have ideas of what they would like to design. There are provided with the material and with the encouragement of our facilitator are taught how to produce their own fantastic pieces from beginning to end.
Arts and Crafts
We have been running a hugely successful arts and crafts course for a number of years. Our participants develop their creativity through art and can identify with the holistic benefits such as stress reduction, boost confidence and enhancement of brain productivity. Through recreational arts and crafts the adult learns to value and appreciate their valuable time that they dedicate each week to their participation in this course.
Sugar Craft
This course is the art of using icing, sugar and other edible decorations to create cakes that look and taste amazing. Being part of the sugar craft class allows the participant to connect with themselves and their imagination allow them to develop their vision and creativity in a therapeutic relaxed atmosphere. Each participant works at their own pace to produce beautiful cakes and designs.
Knots Group
Our Knots group is a group of local ladies who come together once a week to knit to their hearts content. These women come together to produce beautiful knitted blankets, baby gowns, hats and booties, which they donate to local charities such as Bumbulance, Feileacáin, Rotunda Hospital and Carmona services to name but a few.
Needles and Pins
Our needles and pins class is for local women who design and create beautiful pieces from their needle work. The ladies make decorations, cards, toys and clothing within this group. A lot of the pieces they create are donated to local charities and fundraising events.
Holistic Morning and Community Lunch
Once a month here in WCI – DLR we host a holistic morning where we offer participants the opportunity to take part in Auricular Acupuncture and Meditation. This is a specialised complementary therapy where acupuncture points are treated, using needles to help relieve stress. This type of acupuncture focuses only on the ear. Following our treatments, we offer all the participants a delicious lunch prepared on site by our staff. This event is completely free of charge and open to all.
Accredited Courses
Here in WCI – DLR we offer QQI Level 5 accredited courses in Social Studies throughout the academic year (these courses are open to men and women).
